Day 1 – Backpack + School Gear Check
Before you buy anything new, see what you already have.
- Pull out last year’s backpacks, lunchboxes, water bottles, and sports gear.
- Toss anything broken, stained, or… questionably sticky.
- Restock essentials like pencils, erasers, glue sticks in a homework supply bin.
- Wipe down backpacks and lunchboxes so they’re fresh and ready.
Day 2 – Closet + Clothing Reset
The “morning meltdown” usually starts here. Let’s fix that.
- Go through closets and drawers.
- Pull out anything too small, worn, or that your kids simply refuse to wear.
- Create an “outfit station” for the first week so mornings are smoother.
- Make a list of must-buy clothing or shoes before school starts.
Day 3 – Paper + Command Center Setup
Keep important info from getting lost under a pile of junk mail.
- Gather all school forms, sports sign-ups, and schedules in one place.
- Create a command center — this can be a bulletin board, wall file, or a section on the fridge.
- Add a family calendar so everyone can see what’s coming up at a glance.
Day 4 – Lunch + Snack Prep
Make lunch-packing less of a nightmare.
- Set up a lunch-making zone in your kitchen.
- Pre-fill snack bins (one in the pantry, one in the fridge) for grab-and-go ease.
- Bonus: Make a few freezer-friendly sandwiches, muffins, or homemade “Uncrustables” to save time on busy mornings.
Day 5 – Homework + Study Space Refresh
A dedicated homework space = fewer “I can’t find a pencil!” moments.
- Pick a spot for homework (desk, dining table, kitchen counter).
- Stock it with sharpened pencils, paper, crayons, and a charger for devices.
- Clear away clutter and distractions so it’s a calm, productive space.
Day 6 – School Morning Flow
Do a practice run so the first real morning doesn’t feel like The Hunger Games.
- Test wake-up times, breakfast flow, and “out-the-door” timing.
- Make a simple checklist for kids to follow (brush teeth, get dressed, eat breakfast, grab lunch).
Day 7 – Family Reset Sunday
End your reset with a family meeting and a little fun.
- Talk about expectations, schedules, and goals for the school year.
- Do something fun together (ice cream, game night) so it feels exciting, not stressful.
- Lay out Monday clothes, pack backpacks, and prep lunches so your first day is smooth sailing.
