Covered wipes cases became popular in the early 2000s with bright geometric fabrics and trendy trims. (Remember when Chevron patterns were EVERYWHERE?!) We made a video several years ago to show how easy these cases are to make, but the once-popular travel wipes cases you could pick up at Target and Walmart have since gone out of stock!
Today we’re sharing an updated version with a travel case we found on Amazon that is still durable + affordable, but it’s sleek and on-trend for today’s diapering standards.
How to Make a Covered Wet Wipe Case
MATERIALS –
- Plastic Travel Size Wipe Case – Theses are actually face mask holders, but work perfectly for wipes.
- Fabric – If you’re using leather, make sure it’s very thin so the case can close without fabric bunching up.
- Scissors + Rotary Cutter – The rotary cutter is not necessary, but it is definteily very handy!
- Hot Glue Gun
- Ruler
- Pencil or Fabric Marker
- Cutting Mat or Board
DIRECTIONS –
Place open wipe case onto fabric. Trace around while adding an extra inch to the edges.
Cut out your fabric with scissors or rotary cutter. Center the case again, close it, and place a line of hot glue along the ‘spine’ of the case.
Pull the fabric over and make sure it’s glued firmly along the ‘spine’.
Open the case and make slits on the sides of the fabric where the fold is.
Place a bead of glue onto the tabs (or just the sides if using a different styled case).
Place a dot of glue in the corners and pull and/or fold the fabric tight so it’s smooth. Repeat on the other side.
Fold the front fabric over the edge, and mark where your tabs are. The case won’t close if fabric is here.
Cut out notches where you’ve drawn your lines.
Place a bead of glue along the inside front and fold the fabric over, pulling it tight.
Fold the corner edges together and over the lip of the case and glue in place on both sides.
Now for the other half! Make slits in the fabric only up to where the clasps reach when they’re open – do not cut notches out like the bottom half.
Place a bead of glue along the edges and fold the fabric over.
Pull and fold the inner corners of fabric and glue to the case, making sure the outside looks smooth. Trim any excess fabric from the front if necessary, making sure you leave enough to be able to fold over the lip of the case.
Where the clasps are, fold the fabric tabs under.
Place a bead of glue along the front and fold the fabric over and secure in place.
Place a dot of glue along the folded part of the fabric to keep it from unfolding. This makes the case look more professional and steps it up a notch!
Fold the corner edges together and over the lip of the case and glue in place on both sides.
OPTIONAL – this step isn’t necessary, but I like how it gives it a cleaner look. But really, only I’ll be seeing the inside, so if you have OCD like me, follow this step. If not, skip it. 😉 Take your rotary cutter along the inside to clean up the edges and make them straight.
You’re done! Just place some wipes into your case and you’re set! I love how simple, yet classic these look!
Even if you’re out of the diaper bag phase, it’s always handy to have wipes in your purse or in the car. You can even use these for good ol’ Kleenex in your bag or car. Or to hide a candy bar. It’ll be our secret. 😉
Here’s the old video we made if you’d like to see the steps put all together –

Does the hot glue hold up really well? I'm afraid it would just peel off the diaper wipes container since it's just plastic.
Stephanie says
the hot glue holds great!
