I’ve wanted to try a capsule wardrobe forever, but every time I thought about doing it “for real,” it felt weirdly permanent.
Like… what if I get bored wearing the same outfits over and over? What if I miss variety?

Then Suuksess sent me a few pieces from their summer collection on Amazon, and honestly? It was the push I needed to finally take the plunge.
The pieces are simple, classic, comfortable, and easy to mix and match — which is exactly what a capsule wardrobe needs. So I decided to stop overthinking it and finally give this whole “less clothes, more outfits” thing a try.
And so far? My closet feels easy.

What Is a Capsule Wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe is a smaller collection of clothes that can mix and match to create lots of outfit combinations.
Most capsule wardrobes are seasonal, meaning you rotate pieces every few months depending on the weather. So instead of cramming every sweater, tank top, jacket, and pair of shorts you own into one closet year-round, you keep only the pieces you’re realistically wearing during that season.
Which makes getting dressed WAY less dramatic.

Why Start a Capsule Wardrobe?
There are actually a lot of benefits to having a capsule wardrobe:
- You can get dressed faster because almost everything matches
- You save money by buying fewer clothes
- You eliminate decision fatigue
- Your closet feels cleaner and less cluttered
- You actually wear your favorite clothes instead of staring at them while wearing the same 3 outfits anyway
Honestly, the biggest benefit for me has already been the mental clutter reduction.
Apparently not having your closet scream at you every morning is good for your wellbeing.

What Is Included in a Capsule Wardrobe?
Most seasonal capsule wardrobes include around 25–35 main clothing pieces.
Typically this includes:
- Tops
- Bottoms
- Layers
- Shoes
Basically: your everyday, repeat-wear staples.
What Is NOT Included?
These usually don’t count toward your capsule wardrobe total:
- Formal wear
- Swimsuits + cover-ups
- Pajamas/loungewear
- Workout clothes
- Undergarments + bras
- Socks
- Accessories
Accessories are considered “completer pieces,” meaning they help finish outfits without needing a million extra clothing items.
Things like:
- Sunglasses
- Handbags
- Hats
- Jewelry
- Hair accessories
- Belts

Things to Consider Before Building Your Capsule Wardrobe
Climate
Listen… I live in Arizona.
It’s not even officially summer yet and we’re already seeing triple-digit temperatures. Arizona summer basically lasts until October, so lightweight clothing is non-negotiable here.
If you live somewhere cooler, your capsule wardrobe will probably look very different from mine, and that’s the point.
Lifestyle
I work from home, so my wardrobe leans casual, but I still want to look and feel like I have my life together.
Your wardrobe should fit your ACTUAL life, not your fantasy life.
Style
I personally love classic, casual, neutral pieces. But if your style is colorful, trendy, bold, edgy, feminine, sporty, or maximalist… build your capsule around THAT instead.
A capsule wardrobe isn’t about becoming a beige minimalist against your will.

My 5-Step Summer Capsule Wardrobe Formula
Here’s the realistic formula I’m trying this summer:
Step 1: Create Your Color Palette
Choosing a color palette is what helps you create MORE outfits with FEWER pieces.
I recommend choosing:
- 3–5 neutrals
- black
- white
- tan
- denim
- brown
- navy
- cream
- khaki
- 2–3 accent colors
- My accent colors this summer are coastal blue and olive green.

Step 2: Curate Your Tops
You want a mix of basics and “better than basic” pieces.
For summer, I’m using:
- 6–8 basic tees + tanks
- 4–6 lightweight blouses/button-ups
- 2–4 graphic or patterned tops
The goal is versatility.
If every top only works with one pair of bottoms, your capsule wardrobe starts becoming chaos again.

Step 3: Coordinate Your Bottoms
Choose versatile pieces that can mix easily with most of your tops.
For summer, I recommend:
- 3–5 shorts or capris
- 2–3 pairs of jeans
- 3–5 lightweight pants
- 1–3 skirts
- 1–2 nicer dress pants
If a piece ONLY works with one outfit combination, it probably doesn’t need permanent residency in your closet.

Step 4: Complete Your Layers
Depending on your climate, you may not need many layers.
Arizona girls can honestly skip this step for most of summer unless they enjoy sweating aggressively.
But good layering options include:
- denim jacket
- cardigan
- lightweight sweater
- linen blazer
- sweatshirt
- hoodie

Step 5: Comfort Your Feet
Your capsule shoes should be versatile AND wearable.
Good staple options:
- everyday sandals
- white sneakers
- flip flops
- wedges or dressier sandals

My Biggest Capsule Wardrobe Tip
Pull EVERYTHING out of your closet. (Yes. Everything.) Then only hang back up the pieces you truly want in your capsule wardrobe.
Everything else can:
- be donated
- be stored away for next season
- live in a backup storage bin “just in case”
(That’s what I did because apparently I still need emotional support tops nearby while I adjust.)
If you wouldn’t realistically wear it at least once every other week… it probably doesn’t deserve hanger space.
