Declutter your home step by step with this Decluttering A to Z guide! From accessories to zipped files, tackle clutter one letter at a time.

Let’s be real—clutter can quickly take over our homes, creating chaos and stress. But you don’t need to tackle everything at once to feel like you’ve made a real difference.
Sometimes, a focused approach is the key to clearing out the clutter without feeling completely overwhelmed.
That’s why I’ve put together this Decluttering A-Z list! Each letter of the alphabet is an item in your home that could use some purging.
Ready to get started? Let’s dive in!
A – Accessories
Jewelry, scarves, belts, hats, and purses—how many of these do you really wear? Let go of the things that no longer suit your style, are broken, or you simply don’t use. Simplify your accessory collection and keep only what brings you joy.
B – Books
We all love a good book, but when’s the last time you read that one on your shelf? Whether it’s outdated textbooks, novels you’ve already read (or never will), or coffee table books gathering dust, it’s time to let go. You can donate or even trade them for something new!
C – Cords & Cables
How many cords do you have stashed away that you have no idea what they belong to? Or how many random charging cables are taking up space? Go through them, toss the broken ones, and get rid of the extra cords you don’t need anymore.
D – DVDs & CDs
Remember DVDs and CDs? If you have a stack of them collecting dust, consider if you still use them. If not, it’s time to donate or recycle them. Most of the content is available digitally now anyway.
E – Exercise Equipment
That exercise equipment in the corner of your living room—does it still get any use? If it’s just gathering dust, it might be time to part ways with it. Whether it’s resistance bands, weights, or large machines, give them a new home or donate them.
F – Fridge Magnets
Fridge magnets can easily multiply and clutter up your kitchen. Get rid of the ones you no longer love or need. Keep the ones that hold important reminders, but let go of the rest.
G – Games & Puzzles
Games and puzzles are great fun, but they can also become a pile of clutter if pieces are missing or they’re never used. Check the condition and toss the ones you haven’t played in years.
H – Hangers
Do you have mismatched hangers or a pile of broken ones? Keep only the ones that are in good condition and donate the extras. You’ll feel so much more organized with a clean, uniform set of hangers.
I – Instruction Manuals
How many instruction manuals are you holding onto for things you no longer have or use? Most of them can be found online. Toss the paper copies to free up some space in your drawers.
J – Junk Drawer Items
We all have that one drawer that’s a catch-all for random stuff. It’s time to declutter the junk drawer by getting rid of items you never use. Sort through the drawer and only keep the essentials.
K – Kitchen Gadgets
Do you really need that avocado slicer or bread maker? If you haven’t used a gadget in the past six months, it’s probably safe to say goodbye. Streamline your kitchen and only keep what you actually use.
L – Linens
Old towels, mismatched sheets, and extra pillowcases can quickly build up in your linen closet. Donate or repurpose anything that’s stained or worn out. Keep only the sets you actually use.
M – Mugs
Do you really need a cabinet full of mugs? Go through your collection and donate the ones you don’t love or use. You don’t need 20 mugs when five or six will do.
N – Nail Polish
We all have those bottles of nail polish that have dried out or that we just don’t like anymore. Go through your collection and toss the ones that are unusable or that don’t fit your style.
O – Office Supplies
Excess pens, dried-out markers, or outdated stationery can quickly pile up. Go through your office supplies and toss the things that no longer work or that you don’t need. Keep your workspace tidy!
P – Paper Clutter
Old receipts, random notes, and unopened mail can pile up quickly. Go through your paper clutter and shred or recycle what you don’t need. Consider going paperless where you can.
Q – Q-tips & Toiletries
Expired or unused toiletries and Q-tips cluttering up your bathroom? Clear them out! Toss any products that are past their expiration date or that you just don’t use anymore.
R – Random Decor
Over time, random decor items may accumulate that don’t really fit your style. Take a look around and declutter the decor pieces you don’t love or that no longer bring you joy.
S – Socks
Do you have a drawer full of mismatched socks or ones with holes? It’s time to toss the old and holey ones and only keep the ones that match and are in good condition.
T – Tupperware
We’ve all got mismatched Tupperware! Throw out the lids without containers and the containers without lids. Keep the sets that match and are in good condition.
U – Underwear
Stretched-out, uncomfortable, or old underwear taking up space? Let it go. Keep only the pieces that fit and that you actually wear.
V – VHS Tapes
If you don’t have a VHS player, why keep the tapes? Purge these old-school items from your collection.
W – Water Bottles
Do you have a cabinet full of water bottles—some leaking, some never used? Sort through them and keep only the ones you actually use. Recycle the ones that are damaged or collecting dust.
X – X-mas Decorations
If you’re holding onto outdated, broken, or unused holiday decorations, it’s time to let go. Keep only the pieces that truly bring you joy during the holiday season.
Y – Yarn & Craft Supplies
Leftover yarn or craft supplies from abandoned projects can pile up quickly. Go through your stash and donate or dispose of any materials you won’t use again.
Z – Zipped Files & Downloads
Old, unnecessary computer files taking up precious space? Sort through your digital downloads and delete any files you no longer need. This will help keep your computer organized and your space clutter-free.
