How to Have a Productive Morning
Ever feel like your mornings get away from you before you’ve even had a chance to start the day?
It’s like, when I seem to have 5 free minutes before the kids need to be out the door for school, I’ll sit down and fill those 5 minutes by scrolling Instagram, and suddenly, my morning is SHOT! I feel ZERO desire to be productive, and everything else I wanted to get done that morning before work gets pushed off ’til tomorrow.
But this is exactly why I created my 10 Before 10 morning to do list—a simple way to check off 10 small but impactful tasks before 10 AM.
It helps me stay on top of my day, feel productive, and avoid that dreaded feeling of playing catch-up from any doom-scrolling.
How It Works
Each morning, I aim to complete seven non-negotiable tasks that set the tone for my day. Then, I leave room for three additional tasks that change depending on what my day looks like. This keeps things flexible while still giving me a solid morning routine to rely on.
My Daily 7 (The Non-Negotiables)
These are the seven things I try to accomplish every single morning, in no particular order:
- Scripture study and personal prayers – Centering my day with faith and reflection.
- Take vitamins, drink 32oz of water, eat 30g of protein – Fueling my body first thing.
- Exercise – Whether it’s stretching, a workout on YouTube, or a walk.
- Do 1 load of laundry – Staying on top of the never-ending laundry cycle.
- Make my bed – A quick win to start the day feeling accomplished.
- Get dressed from head to toe – Because getting ready helps set the tone for the day.
- Quick Home Reset – pick up/tidy downstairs – A 5-minute reset makes a big difference.
The Flexible 3
Every day, I add three extra tasks to my list based on what needs to get done. These can be personal, home-related, or work-related. Some examples:
- Plan meals for the week
- Submit an online grocery order
- Prep dinner ingredients
- Read for 10 minutes
- Water the plants
- Schedule appointments
- Declutter one small space
Variations for Different Schedules
Not everyone works from home or has a flexible morning schedule, so here are a few ways to tweak this routine:
- 10 Before 10PM – Perfect for those who work during the day and need an evening version.
- 7 Before 7 – A streamlined version for early risers.
- 5 Before 5 – A small but mighty checklist for busy schedules.
- 6 At 6 – Important things to get started on each morning or evening.
